OUR FOUNDER
A Legacy Before the Workshop
Avi Tavisal is a seventh-generation Jerusalemite. Long before he ever set a diamond, his family had already spent centuries in this city- a continuity he carries in his hands. At fourteen, he began learning the craft from his father: the patience of design, the precision of setting stone. His first store opened in 1975; two years later, he became a member of the Israel Diamond Exchange.
But the deeper inheritance was never the trade. Avi is a man of faith and a Zionist by conviction — and the belief that carried him forward was that faith, craftsmanship, and Jerusalem itself could be joined together, and passed on, one generation at a time.
The Sifting Project
In 1999, ancient artifacts beneath Jerusalem's Temple Mount were nearly lost. Today, archaeologists and volunteers carefully sift through the recovered earth- over 635,000 findings uncovered so far, by more than 260,000 volunteers from around the world, across more than two decades of work. Avi takes part in the sifting himself- a personal link between the project and every piece Moriah creates.
